History
Built from 1936 to 1938, the three Berkeley buildings were designed by Joshua Tabatchnik (77th Street and 35th Avenue) and Philip Birnbaum (78th Street). These elegant and unique Neo-Georgian buildings wrap around one block—the east side of 77th Street, the south side of 35th Avenue, and the west side of 78th Street.

Governance

Board of Directors
The Berkeley is cooperatively owned by its shareholders, and governed by an elected Board of Directors. Board members are volunteers who work with the co-op's managing agent and building staff. Members serve a two-year term, and elections are held at the Annual Shareholders Meeting. All shareholders may run for the Board.

Committees
Dozens of Berkeley neighbors are involved in co-op governance engagement as part of thematic committees and working groups. All residents are encouraged to participate in and propose new committees, and volunteer their skills and time!
